Joanna Dees serves as Vice President, Educational Programs. She has spent her career seeking to expand economic opportunities for communities and people that have been excluded.
Before joining the WICT team in September 2015, Joanna led NGLCC Global, a division of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
As Vice President of Global Programs and Corporate Relations, she worked towards LGBT economic empowerment. Fostering the creation of LGBT chambers of commerce around the world and connecting LGBT-owned enterprises with multinational corporations, Joanna promoted LGBT supplier diversity and workplace inclusion.
Prior to moving to the Washington, DC metro area, Joanna was employed by the Noisette Foundation in North Charleston, South Carolina. She served as an AmeriCorps VISTA developing pre-release curriculum for state inmates before being hired full-time as a ex-offender job coach and later appointed the Acting Executive Director of the Noisette Foundation. In these roles, Joanna established and directed a service-learning pilot program for nonviolent inmates called the Lowcountry Civic Justice Corps and coached dozens of ex-offenders into successful long-term employment.
Joanna received her BA in Sociology and Psychology from the College of William & Mary in 2005. She earned a Master of Arts degree in Public Sociology at American University in August 2010. Joanna lives in Mt. Rainier, Maryland, with her husband, Aaron, and their pet beagle, Lincoln.
