Dr. Aruna Sharma is Senior Counsel in the legal department of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., focusing on technology, privacy and information security.
In her current role she concentrates on the management and expansion of Turner’s global technology, privacy and information security initiatives in cooperation with Turner’s Information Security Office, and she leads Turner’s efforts to create and maintain an internal, comprehensive global data privacy and governance program. She provides guidance to the business as well as other Turner attorneys on U.S. and international privacy and information security law issues that arise in connection with new business initiatives, including website and mobile privacy, digital advertising and big data, consumer data processing, employee and business contact data administration, the secure handling of personal data and incident response, and related policies, practices and guidelines.
Additionally, she works closely as the legal subject matter expert with the Information Security Office, handling its technology transactions, as well as providing legal counsel to management, and to attorneys in Turner’s Legal Department, with regard to all matters related to the corporate information security governance program, ensuring that proper security is built into business processes and agreements across the company to meet the legal requirements.
Before joining Turner in the US she worked for Turner’s Europe Middle East Africa office in London and for Germany’s biggest television cable provider KDG, now Vodafone.
Aruna is a German qualified attorney, and is admitted to the Munich Bar (Germany), the roll of solicitors of England and Wales, and the New York Bar.
She earned her law degree and PhD from the University of Cologne, and received a graduate degree from the Emory University School of Law.
