Charlie Jordan Brookins

Charlie Jordan Brookins is Senior Vice President of Original
Programming for BET Networks where she oversees the development and current
programming for a diverse portfolio of original scripted, unscripted and movie
content for both the BET and Centric banners.  With her leadership,
scripted programming successfully re-launched with new original episodes
of “The Game” – which premiered as the #1 rated sitcom in ad supported
cable history.  Other breakout shows include the reigning #1 gospel music
competition series, “Sunday Best”, as well as “Let’s Stay Together”, “Apollo
Live”, “Reed Between the Lines”, “Tiny and Toya”, “The Sheards” and the highly
acclaimed hour drama “Being Mary Jane” from powerhouse creative duo Mara Brock
Akil and Salim Akil (“The Game”; “Girlfriends”).  Charlie embraces the
creative challenge of shepherding programming that fulfills BET’s vision to
REFLECT, RESPECT and ELEVATE.

 

Prior to joining BET in 2009 as Vice President of Programming
Operations, Charlie served as Director of Development at MTV Films, overseeing
the development of original channel movies for both MTV and
CMT including "My Super Sweet Sixteen", "All You’ve
Got" and "Broken Bridges."  Brookins also served as
Marketing Manager for 20th Television.  After holding a
myriad of support roles working for Robert Townsend and his production company,
Townsend Television, Charlie sowed her own creative oats as a writer, producer
and director, helming the television movie, “Something to Sing About” and the
feature film, “Magdalena”

 

A Chicago native and proud wife
and mother of two young sons, Brookins holds a B.S. in Radio-TV-Film from
Northwestern University and an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at
UCLA.
