Julie A. Elliott

Julie Elliott oversees health care and benefits for the thousands of Scripps Networks Interactive (SNI) employees and retirees living and working around the globe. As the Senior Vice President of Compensation and Benefits, she also sets the company’s compensation strategy to secure the right employee mix, one that has propelled the SNI lifestyle properties HGTV, DIY Network, Food Network, Cooking Channel, Travel Channel and Great American country (GAC) into beloved brands.

Julie has had a profound influence on the shape of SNI. As the Corporate Compensation Director for SNI’s former parent company, E. W. Scripps, she played a major role in the 2008 spin-off and structure of the independent company. She has been a key player in multiple company acquisitions, including the most recent – SNI’s purchase of a majority stake in Travel Channel in 2010. She also regularly supports the company’s Board of Directors and serves on the Employee Benefits Committee. By using a total rewards focus, Julie smoothly steered SNI through a transition from pension plan to 401K plan; and is currently transforming the company’s “Live Well” program beyond benefits to a culture that supports and emphasizes the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.

Julie is a certified compensation professional with more than 20 years of experience in the field. She fully embraces continued learning and development both for herself and others. She serves on the faculty of World at Work where she teaches a statistics course for compensation professionals, has participated in several mentoring programs and regularly speaks to various audiences on the topic of compensation. As a relative newcomer to both the media industry and WICT, Julie is very appreciative to have been selected for Class 24 (XXIV) of the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute. She is also a member of the East Tennessee Compensation and Benefits Association and a member of the Women in Cable and Telecommunications organization.

Julie has a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from the University of Cincinnati and a master’s in business administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She also attended Ohio State University and Marshall University.

She is married with three grown children, plus a foster daughter and granddaughter. Practicing what she teaches, Julie and her husband, Dwight, have embraced “Live Well” by biking more than 6,000 miles of trails in the past five years.
