Madhu Goel Southworth is Senior Vice President, Legal & Business Affairs for AMC Network Entertainment LLC and Sundance TV. In that capacity, she advises and counsels AMC, AMC Studios and Sundance TV’s business departments with respect to unscripted and digital development and production matters, product integrations, digital ad sales, marketing, activations and promotions, consumer products, licensing and acquisitions, location based entertainment, gaming, intellectual property and other legal and business affairs matters concerning AMC’s top series. Madhu joined AMC in 2009, just three weeks before AMC greenlit The Walking Dead and had a significant role in the launch of AMC Studios.
Prior to AMC, Madhu worked at A&E Television Networks as Director, Legal and Business Affairs providing counsel and negotiating development, production, and talent agreements in both their unscripted and documentary departments.
Madhu has volunteered her time for a myriad of committees and causes, including Legal Outreach, the Entertainment Law Committee and the Women’s Law Committee of the New York City Bar Association, the South Asian Bar Association of New York, for which she currently serves on their in-house steering committee, and South Asians in Media, Marketing and Entertainment Association (SAMMA) which she founded in 2006. Currently, Madhu sits on the steering committee of the Women’s Committee at the Association of Corporate Counsel; serves on the Board of Commit 2 Change, a nonprofit working towards female youth empowerment in orphanages in India as well as the Board of Reel Works, a nonprofit organization teaching low-income youth storytelling through filmmaking; and finally, on the Board of Trustees of Town Hall, a performance venue in the heart of Time Square.
In 2016, Madhu founded Lattice, along with colleagues at Amazon and HBO, a networking organization for senior in-house women counsel in media, entertainment, and digital. Madhu is also a member of Women in Cable Telecommunications and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In 2015, Madhu was recognized by the North American South Asian Bar Association as "Corporate Counsel of the Year". In 2014, Madhu was recognized by the National Association of Minorities in Cable (NAMIC) as a "Luminary". Madhu graduated from University of Chicago Law in 2001, spent a year at a federal judicial clerkship in the Southern District of New York, and went into private practice with Sidley & Austin in New York after. Prior to going in-house, Madhu was an associate at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz, P.C., an entertainment law firm. Madhu lives in New York with her husband and two young daughters, ages 5 and 2.
