Mary Anne Fox is the Director of Regional Newsgathering for CNN. In that role, Fox oversees the editorial direction and day-to-day operations of the New York Bureau. Since joining the newsroom in July 2014, she has led the breaking news coverage on many stories including the upstate New York prison break, the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and the Eric Garner protests.
Fox has an extensive background in both programming and field producing while at CNN. She joined CNN in 2001, where she started as a news assistant in the New York Bureau. Just a few months in, she became a production assistant for CNN’s newly announced NewsNight with Aaron Brown. Fox worked her way up during her time with NewsNight to associate producer and then producer, where she was a part of the award winning coverage of several stories, including the coverage of Hurricane Katrina, the 2004 tsunami disaster and 9/11.
Late 2005, Fox joined Anderson Cooper 360. During her time there as a producer and then senior producer, Fox spent much of her time in the field covering major stories around the world such the 2013 typhoon in the Philippines, the 2011 famine in Somalia and Kenya and Egypt’s revolution. She also was a part of the team who was awarded two Emmy’s for their coverage on the ground of the earthquake in Haiti.
Fox also produced investigative and feature stories, as well as specials for AC360, including the award winning investigative documentaries Planet in Peril and Planet in Peril: Battle Lines.
As a senior producer for AC360, Fox was part of the day-to-day planning of the editorial direction of the show. She collaborated with counterparts across all platforms, as well as reporters and producers on stories.
Fox graduated from New York University with a Bachelor’s in broadcast journalism. She lives in Haworth, New Jersey with her family.
