Mary Susan Schilling is the director of traffic for the Local News & Programming Division of Time Warner Cable (TWC), based out of New York City. Currently she is the primary liaison and point person for news, sales, and traffic. Her chief functions are to ensure the: correct programming/formats are in place, sponsorships are allocated correctly, spot content adheres to the policies of the news group and programming changes are updated. Prior to the relocation of traffic to North Carolina, Schilling was also responsible for all of traffic operations for the New York State news channels of Time Warner Cable.
Prior to her promotion to director of traffic she was the traffic manager for NY1 News and NY1 Noticias where she was responsible for all the day-to-day traffic operations ensuring all traffic programming logs were produced correctly and in adherence with company and industry standards. Schilling and her team were responsible for all order entry, copy allocation, log production, programming/formats, verification and billing, and merging the traffic logs with the newsroom computer system.
Schilling began her career with Time Warner Cable in April 1993. Her first position was as the traffic assistant and she moved up through the ranks to hold the following positions: traffic coordinator, traffic supervisor, and traffic manager before being promoted to director of traffic for the Local News Division (now Local News & Programming) in December 2005. Throughout her career at TWC she has been a support provider and point person for several TWC news channels across the country and was on the initial launch team for many of the channels.
As director her primary responsibility was to oversee the traffic operations for the eight New York State channels, monitor their day to day operations, ensure all traffic logs were produced correctly and merged properly with the newsroom system, standardize workflow, procedures and sales offerings while leaving what makes each station special in place all while maintaining direct supervision of the traffic operations for NY1 News and NY1 Noticias.
Prior to joining TWC, Schilling worked at WNEW-AM/WYNY-FM. Her career there began has a promotions intern and she moved on to hold the following positions: sales assistant, executive sales assistant, and continuity director.
Schilling is an active member of Women in Cable Telecommunications’ National and New York Chapters. She is also a member of the Alliance for Women in Media and the Traffic Directors Guild of America.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Television and Radio from Brooklyn College where she graduated cum laude with honors.
