Sara Pratley

Sara Pratley is the Vice President for CNN’s National Newsgathering unit.  She leads a team of National News Editors who focus on editorial, operations and content creation to bring the best and most important stories to CNN’s global audiences on television, digital, social platforms and beyond.

Sara works with senior leaders across the organization each day to identify and prioritize the domestic stories and topics that CNN is covering.  She and her team are the connective tissue between CNN’s multiple platforms, departments and bureaus.  Sara directs coverage efforts among these teams on a day to day basis as they work to develop the best reporting and visuals to create compelling content to tell each story.

Sara has been known for her leadership in breaking news coverage where she helped lead the deployment of scores of personnel and coordinate multi-platform coverage of such stories as the Boston Marathon bombings, the Orlando Pulse Nightclub shooting and riots in Ferguson and Baltimore.

In her time overseeing the National Desk Sara has evolved the team into a story-focused newsgathering operation capable of prioritizing editorial, operations and content.

Sara joined CNN’s National Newsgathering team after working at local television stations in New York and Florida.  In the decade that she’s been with the organization she has worked as an assignment editor, regional supervisor and now her current position leading the National Desk.
