Supporting Women in STEM

Empowering the Next Generation of Women in Tech

Future-proofing the media, entertainment and technology sectors requires a strong pipeline of female STEM leaders. The WICT Network is committed to closing the gap and championing women in technology through our key initiatives, including the following.

Tech It Out

For nearly 20 years, The WICT Network’s Tech It Out initiative has empowered women to lead and innovate in technology while spotlighting the wide range of opportunities available in STEM across our industry. In collaboration with local chapters, SCTE and NAMIC Next, the program delivers engaging educational experiences and meaningful networking opportunities designed to cultivate connected, future-ready tech leaders.

This year’s program, Tomorrow’s Edge: Advancing Beyond 5G, will take place Tuesday, July 21, as a hybrid event presented by The WICT Network Global and The WICT Network: Carolinas.

Nomi M. Bergman Fellowship

Named in honor of one of the industry’s most passionate champions of The WICT Network and women in STEM, the Fellowship provides a high-potential woman working in technology with access to the power of The WICT Network’s leadership development programs and dynamic professional community.

Over the course of a year, the Fellowship recipient participates in an immersive experience focused on strengthening leadership skills, expanding industry connections, and accelerating professional growth through The WICT Network’s programs and resources.

Learn more about the Fellowship and meet the 2026 recipient, Tania Santamaria, on The WICT Network website.

PAR Initiative

The WICT Network’s employment data survey tracks representation and trends for women in technology roles across our industry and benchmarks the findings against other sectors. Insights from the latest survey were shared during the 2024 Diversity Town Hall in New York as part of The WICT Network Leadership Conference.

TechConnect

The TechConnect Initiative, created in partnership with Women in Technology honorees, The WICT Network, and SCTE, connects senior technology leaders with high-potential rising professionals through a structured mentorship experience designed to support the advancement and retention of women in technology.

The program fosters meaningful leadership development, career guidance and peer connection, helping mentees navigate workplace challenges, build confidence, and accelerate their growth as future industry leaders and innovators.

Each program year launches with a kick-off gathering held during The WICT Network Leadership Conference.

Doug Semon Scholarship

Technology innovator and industry leader Doug Semon, the husband of 2010 Women in Technology honoree Leslie Ellis, passed away unexpectedly in 2020 after a distinguished career in the cable industry.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Doug was deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of innovators through the FIRST Robotics program in the Denver area, where he supported George Washington High School FRC Team 1410 “The Kraken.”

To honor Doug’s legacy, the SCTE Foundation, in partnership with past recipients of the SCTE/The WICT Network Women in Technology Award, established a scholarship fund dedicated to continuing his passion for inspiring young people to become future leaders and innovators in science and technology.
