What is Coaching?

Coaching is a partnership between a coach and a client for the purpose of producing extraordinary and fulfilling results for the client. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their knowledge, improve their performance and enhance the quality of their lives.

Professional coaches are trained to listen and observe, to customize their approach to the client’s needs and to elicit solutions and strategies from the client. Coaches believe that the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach’s role, therefore, is to bring out the strengths, capabilities, creativity, and resourcefulness of the client in order to facilitate the achievement of desired goals or objectives.

ICF membership includes personal and professional coaches from the greater New York City area, across various U.S. states, and around the globe. These members pledge to uphold ICF’s core competencies, standards, ethics, and practices.

With over 1,500+ members, The ICF NYC Chartered Chapter is among the most extensive and diverse ICF local chapters globally. Their members bring a rich variety of cultural backgrounds, languages, and coaching experiences, contributing significantly to their growth and development.

The ICF mission is to create a community where coaching practitioners, aspiring coaches, and academics can learn, support, develop, and advance the coaching profession. The vision is to foster a culture of excellence in coaching growth and development that empowers their community in service to others.

ICF is committed to providing high-quality professional development, fostering an engaged membership community, motivating members to achieve ICF credentials, and celebrating their dedication to the coaching profession. They also focus on expanding partnerships with academic institutions, promoting coaching, and offering pro bono coaching services to local organizations and communities.

The ICF NYC Chartered Chapter proudly continues its partnership with WICT this year by offering both in-person and virtual pro-bono coaching at The WICT Leadership Conference.
