Ms. Lazo began her career in Human Resources Management in 1988 with retailer R.H. Macy & Co. in New York City. After completing their Executive Training Program, she went on to hold a number of roles of increasing responsibility during her tenure there.
Looking for an industry change, she joined NBC in September 1995 as Manager, Human Resources WNBC-TV, New York and then in April 1997, was named Manager, Human Resources at CNBC in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In July 1998, Ms. Lazo was appointed Director, Human Resources with client responsibility for Finance, Business Development, Legal and East Coast Entertainment. In April 2000, she was promoted to Vice President, Human Resources for the NBC TV Stations Divisions providing leadership and support to 13 owned and operated television stations and divisional staff across the U.S. In October 2001, NBC announced the acquisition of Telemundo and Ms. Lazo was appointed as the Human Resources Integration leader; and in May 2002, was named Senior Vice President, Human Resources for the business based in Miami, FL. For the next five years, she was a key contributor to shaping the business strategy to produce original content for Hispanics, creating the fastest growing Spanish language network in the U.S. Among her accomplishments is the start up of production studios in Miami and Mexico, expansion of the owned stations portfolio, and the creation of the first ever Spanish language writer’s program in partnership with Miami Dade Community College and Loyola Marymount University.
In March 2007, Ms. Lazo was appointed Senior Vice President, Human Resources for the TV Network and Cable Entertainment businesses and relocated to Los Angeles, CA. In August 2009, oversight of Telemundo was added to her portfolio to create the NBC Universal Television Entertainment group and subsequently was promoted to Executive Vice President. In addition, she has served as national co-chair for GE’s Hispanic Forum since 2008.
She graduated cum laude from St. John’s University in Jamaica, New York.
Ms. Lazo is a board member of the “I Have a Dream Foundation”, Los Angeles and received a Woman of the Year award in 2008 from the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation. She has also been recognized by the National Hispanic Corporate Achievers and has been listed among The Imagen Foundation’s Most Powerful and Influential Latinos in Entertainment, Hispanic Business magazine’s “100 Most Influential Hispanics” and Latin Business magazine’s “Top 100”.
