The WICT Network is proud to highlight our 2022 Chapter Advisor of the Year, Anne Harris, from The WICT Network: Heartland. A member of the chapter since 2013, Anne served as chapter president from 2017 to 2019 and is committed to finding ways to continue to serve. Anne shares the secret behind her chapter’s high level of member engagement—and how her team’s hard work and dedication led to their year’s success.

How long have you been a member of your chapter?
I joined in 2013.
What inspired you to become a Chapter Advisor?
I had such a wonderful experience leading the chapter as president, and I wanted to continue to find ways to serve. My favorite thing about being engaged at this level is ensuring that the time our board and committee members invest feels like it adds value to their own professional development.
What are some lessons you have learned from being a leader?
To meet people where they are at, and try to be the type of leader they need. Help each person leverage their individual and unique strengths. When people tap into their gifts, they’re more engaged and oftentimes contribute at an even greater level than if you were to focus on weaknesses.
What do you think are the most important qualities of a successful leader?
Empathy, listening and communication, agility, consistency and problem solving come to mind as the things that I’ve seen in successful leaders.
What are some things that set your chapter apart?
Our incredible board and committee members are so passionate about and committed to delivering value to our members. They seek to truly understand the needs of our members and then work hard to create the most impactful programs and opportunities for meaningful connections. We may have a smaller chapter, but our member engagement is a direct result of all their amazing work.
Do you have any goals for future leadership?
I have been so fortunate to have amazing leaders and mentors in my career. I hope to continue to pay that forward by mentoring and supporting others in their career journey. I also want to continue to learn from others and become the best leader I can be.
