Jennilee shared the inspirational experience she had during the Tech It Out program–an initiative that premiered with the goal of creating strong women leaders in technology–and how it launched the many impactful moments in her career.

How long have you been a member of your chapter?
I joined in 2019.
What inspired you to become a Chapter Leader?
I had spent 14 years in the retail industry before joining Comcast, so I felt very much a fish out of water! A few months after joining, my teammate invited me to join her at Tech It Out and I was inspired to hear so many powerful women showing up, giving back and absolutely owning the room. I joined the mentorship program that year and was introduced to the power of lifting each other up, making room for growth—but most importantly, finding myself with a voice at a table filled with amazing women. I believe that experience was the launch of so many impactful moments in my career and I wanted to give back to this organization. One of my mentors suggested I get involved in the board and the rest as they say, is history.
What are some lessons you have learned from being a leader?
The past can help teach you how to make the future even better. Don’t just assume what is, should continue to be. If you have an idea on how to make improvements, don’t be afraid to try!
What do you think are the most important qualities of a successful leader?
Empathy, energy and engagement.
What are some things that set your chapter apart?
Being a Philly based chapter means we come with grit, we are willing to dig in and are always looking to find new ways to change things up as a team. Together, we have found new ways to drive the whole chapter forwards.
Do you have any goals for future leadership?
I want to make sure that I continue to help create opportunities for others so we can all continue to rise.
