Karen Jones

Karen Jones is Executive Vice President, Communications for HBO and HBO Max, responsible for overall strategy and execution of all aspects of program publicity, executive and crisis communications for HBO and HBO Max, leading teams in Los Angeles and New York.

In October 2020, Karen took on the expanded role of overseeing program publicity for the HBO Max streaming platform, which launched in May 2020, after being elevated to overseeing HBO communications in October 2019.

Karen joined HBO in 1999 as Director, Media Relations, and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2018.  During that time, she was responsible for the development and execution of publicity efforts, from inception through production and awards campaigns, for many of HBO’s critically-acclaimed programs including, Lovecraft Country, Perry Mason, Westworld, Silicon Valley; miniseries Chernobyl, Olive Kitteridge, The Pacific; and films The Normal Heart, Game Change, Taking Chance, and Elephant.

Prior to joining HBO, Karen was a freelance unit publicist, working on feature films including Beloved, As Good As It Gets, Amistad, Mars Attacks!, Devil in a Blue Dress, Clockers, and Menace II Society. She also authored the movie companion book Mars Attacks! The Art of the Movie.

Karen received her B.A., magna cum laude, in French from Amherst College and did post-graduate studies in French Literature at New York University. She is a second generation native of Los Angeles and lives in a multigenerational home with two sweet dogs.
